PLACEMENT-ANNOUNCEMENT #1, '07
~ WELCOME! ~ COMMUNICATION.
Hello Placed People!
This is the first Placement-Announcement for 2007. You are receiving this because we have your questionnaire and have your camp logged in our database. We, the Placement Team, will work hard to give every camp placement as close to what they ask for as possible. Your questionnaire will be our guide to your needs.

THIS LIST
When you received the automated welcome to this list it described it
as a discussion list you could post to. It is not. It is a one way
announcement list and will give you information about placement for
2007. The email address of the person who filled out your
questionnaire and any additional email addresses provided have been
added to this announcement list. You can expect approximately 10
announcements between now and the event. This list will provide you
with valuable information about what is new for this year, tell you
how to take advantage of different opportunities, remind you of
deadlines for additional information we may need, answer frequently
asked questions and finally give you instructions on how to get
placed once on the playa. As a member of this list it is your
responsibility to communicate this information to the rest of your
camp members.
PLACEMENT
By approximately August 1st the city will be planned and we will give
you your address in Black Rock City. Between now and then do not
wait for us to contact you. Proceed with your planning! We will
call or email you if we have any questions. If you continue to
receive these important Placement-Announcements and do not hear from
us directly, assume all is well. Please do not email us asking for
information on your placement. This will only slow down the process.
We will not know until late July.
Some of you may have noticed that we changed the deadline for submissions to a month earlier than years past. This will not change the timing for your notification of placement. The scope of placing camps has grown yearly and we need more time for the process.
CONTACTING US
If you need to make any changes to your questionnaire or have any
questions, email us at placement@burningman.com. The Placement Team
is waiting to assist! If you do not hear back from us within a week
please email again. We are confident that nothing other than the
barrage of spam that accompanies our emails will keep communication
from going any way but smoothly. (Please note that calling or
emailing Harley, Josephine or Frog directly will really slow
everything down! Frog and Josephine are taking a year off and
Harley is less involved in the placement process than in years past.)
CONTACTING YOU
Communication is essential for your camp's successful placement.
Every theme-camp or village must have an official "contact-person".
This person is responsible for speaking to us on behalf of your
theme-camp or village. All communication between us and your camp
will go through this contact-person only. It is critical to your
successful placement that your contact-person be informed, engaged
and available via email or phone between June 15th and August 1st.
We assume that the person who filled out your questionnaire is taking
on the role of contact-person. If this is not the case we need to
hear from both the person who filled out the questionnaire and the
true contact-person before we make any changes to our records
GOOD COMMUNICATION
Your contact-person is responsible for seeing that all
Placement-Announcements are passed along to your entire theme-camp or
village. Also, it is HIGHLY recommended that every camp or village
have more than one individual who receives these, to assist with
information dissemination. The email address of the person who filled
out your questionnaire, and any additional email addresses provided,
have been added to this announcement list. A request from the contact
person is the only way we will add more people to this list, so
figure out what addresses to add and send them to
placement@burningman.com today! (It is clear from past history that
the larger the camp the greater the need for additional people to
help remind others of deadlines, dates and critical information.)
_________________________________________________________
We've been getting a lot of questions concerning Early Arrivals for this year. There's a new system in place that will make it easier for everyone to manage, and we'll cover it in detail shortly.
We've also been getting a lot of inquiries about getting events listed in the WhatWhereWhen guide. We're working on that one and will send something out really soon.
That's all for now folks! The next few Placement-Announcements will also cover such areas as the 2007 City Map, web-site blurbs, health-department matters, fire-safety guidelines, Leave No Trace planning, etc., etc., etc., etc.
Stay tuned!
Cheers!
