Hi all,

Here are the notes I took yesterday.

MOST IMPORTANT: Greg is going to set up a new mailing list, which will be mathcampers@mathcamp.us You will be sent information on how to sign up for the list. The Fast Furnishing lists and Group W list will continue to exist, but if you are camping with Math Camp @ Group W this year, you will want to sign up for the new list.

Also on the new domain (and still on the topic of communications), Greg will set up a wiki, where we can have people sign up for lectures at Math Camp. We can also have a section on the wiki for camp ideas, lists of what's needed, etc.

We spent a fair amount of time discussing the public camp layout. We have three shade structures (the kind that also double as carports, around 10' x 20'. We talked about laying them out in a semi triangle, with the backs open, so people can move between them easily. We also talked about taking the parachute structure that was largely unused in the private area of camp last year, and putting it over the shade structures. (I think Paul, Merrilee, and Greg are in charge of figuring out of the parachute can be used in this way)

One structure will be Math Camp; one structure will be the Group W bar; one structure will be a general area where we can have spill over from either the bar or Math Camp, or it could also be used as the String Theory area where Claudine, Josie, and others will do crafty type stuff that has a link into math, because you have to count in order to knit, crochet, etc. Do not ask me about this logic.

Both Math Camp and the Tattoo Parlor will have "official" opening hours between 2-4 Wednesday through Sunday, and the Group W bar will be open as usual for the welcome the Sun deal (I put Math Camp in the Who What Where, and I'll put the other stuff in as soon a Greg sends me a final copy of our application, which I can't find for some reason).

I will also put our camp description on the Burning Man website later today.

The camp part of the wiki will have a place where we can each record when we think we are showing up, how much space we need, and when we are leaving. This will help with space planning.

Math camp, items needed: Remember, for thing we need, try to think about recycling already purchase items rather than buying new. Chalkboards (we have two whiteboards) Whiteboard markers, erasers Slide rules Hostess pies (for serving pi) Remaindered sudoku books (I think someone already has a handle on this) Countdown clock, or clock with sweep second hand Mathematical magnets (although we'd need a metal surface for these to work?)

Some things that were mentioned about Math Camp: We need to have things for the math challenged Tim (2) has an interactive math video game, and will also bring a projector. Teaching crazy crochet as part of the "applying math to life" series\ We'd like to make math camp pocket protectors that can be worn by those without pockets. Math is Hard camp

Math camp logo: Josie is going to make us one, send her your ideas.

One of the Tims is making a Math Mix, so he'd like your suggestions of math related songs.

Rob has cards from last year that have email addresses of people interested in Math Camp. He may need some help getting this information transcribed, so we may need to have a data entry party, if he's feeling overwhelmed.

Tattoo parlor: will have a sample book

That's it from me. Look for the note telling you how to sign up for the new list.

Merrilee
